Seattle Children’s
Donor Wall

Experience Design

Seattle Children’s sets the regional standard on pediatric care and cancer treatment. Individual, guild and corporate donations have historically provided a strong foundation for the hospital, and enabled a generous financial aid program for patient care.

The Seattle Children’s Foundation wanted to show their gratitude with a new donor wall that recognized significant donors and provided a moment of pause and reflection for visitors.

Role: Senior Designer at Hornall Anderson

Strength in Numbers

Set in the River Wing of Children’s, we crafted an integrated and immersive experience. Using the vessel of a river as current moving us all forward, each rock then stood for a donor. The sheer number of rocks on the wall became a testament to the power of community.

Words of thanks were typeset along the walls to reinforce the feeling of gratitude.

Programmable LED track lighting above and below the walls provided a feeling of an undulating, ever-changing current.

Attention to Detail

How to acknowledge almost 3,000 major donors? With the river theme in mind, we developed a series of sculptural rocks to serve as donor plaques. Shape, size and color modulated based on donation level. Then they were painted, printed and applied based on our detailed elevations.

Visitors could refer to a list at either end of the experience to find a specific donor rock.
